Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)

Each of the written papers is returned to Cambridge for marking and assessment. The Speaking Test is conducted by two locally based examiners who examine candidates face to face.

Reading and Use of English (Paper 1) 1 hour 30 minutes

The Reading paper assesses candidates’ ability to understand texts from publications such as fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and magazines.

For the Use of English part, candidates will be tested by tasks which show how well they can control your grammar and vocabulary.

Writing (Paper 2) 1 hour 30 minutes

The Writing paper, candidates must produce two different pieces of writing such as an article, a report, a proposal and a review.

Listening (Paper 3) 40 minutes 

The Listening paper assesses candidates’ ability to understand the meaning of a range of spoken material, including lectures, radio broadcasts, speeches and talks.

Speaking (Paper 4) 15 minutes

For the Speaking Test candidates will take the Speaking test with another candidate or in a group of three. Candidates will be tested on their ability to take part in different types of interaction: with the examiner, with the other candidate and by themselves.
