Cambridge English: First Certificate in English (FCE)
Each of the written papers is returned to Cambridge for marking and assessment. The Speaking Test is conducted by two locally based examiners who examine candidates face to face. All examiners are accredited by Cambridge.
Reading and Use of English (Paper 1) 1 hour 15 minutes |
The Reading paper assesses candidates’ abitity to understand information in fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and magazines. For the Use of English part, candidates are tested on tasks which show how well they control their grammar and vocabulary. |
Writing (Paper 2) 1 hour 20 minutes |
For the Writing paper, candidates must show they can produce two different pieces of writing such as a short story, a letter, an article, a report, a review or an essay. |
Listening (Paper 3) 40 minutes |
For the Listening paper, candidates show that they understand the meaning of a range of spoken material, including news programmes, speeches, stories, anecdotes and public announcements. |
Speaking (Paper 4) 14 minutes |
The Speaking Test is taken with another candidate or in a group of three. Candidates will be tested on their ability to take part in different types of interaction: with the examiner, with the other candidates and by themselves. |
